What are we on about?

If you're here looking for answers, you're in the wrong place—but also the right place. I can't offer many (any?) authoritative info, but I'm always game to share my honest opinions, semi-educated guesses, and ongoing discoveries.
 

Why Twee?

One day many annums yore, a twitch of curiosity led me to look into a term I'd often heard, assumed I basically grokked, and generally dismissed: Twee. To my consternation (and somewhat to my dismay), in reviewing a quick list of exemplary artists associated with the genre, I discovered several of my long-time favorites. I took issue with some of the judgmental language describing this style of music, though I couldn't wholly disagree with the broad strokes.

Why Now?

Over time, with some self-reflection, I came to embrace the idea that twee might actually be my go-to genre. Was I often cynical and sarcastic? Yes. Did I love sophisticated, complex, and high-brow works of art (books, movies, TV shows, etc.)? Of course. Was I a fan of and avid listener to other music genres (indie, alternative, classical, blues, folk)? Definitely. But did I also have a relentlessly tender spot in my jaded little heart and world-weary soul for this unlikely style of music? Guilty as charged. So, I decided to delve deeper.

What Gives?

I'm on a journey of discovery. I want to learn more about this genre. I want to discover amazing new artists and exhilarating new songs. I want to better understand what it is I love about this music, and maybe even why. And I want to welcome you to join me. If you're already into this music and have some knowledge to share, please don't be stingy with the insights. If you're just twee-curious and want to dip your toes into the whimsical river from the edge of the dappled glade, that's fine too. If you're enamored but uninformed, I'm right there with you.
